I never betrayed my country.
I have been just. And the righteous suffer in life.
Kill me then, and I can be free.
synopsis
It is a gesture that a disoriented society struggles to understand, so much so that this maiden named Jeannette seems crazy, insane, and mentally ill.
Anything but exemplary, anything but holy.
But beyond any possible religious significance that is not our purpose in exploring, what of his unwillingness to abjuration we can make ours?
There is no point in wondering if Jeannette was crazy or not.
Rather, we must look at her as a stranger in a crowd of non-existent men because they are empty, vile, and absent
Where else is it possible to grasp her ability not to give in to injustice, iniquity, and the bullying of corrupt and senseless laws?
God has nothing to do with it”
Jeannette knows this well. She goes to her death uncompromisingly because she knows that the one who burned her is a man, not a God.
And the whims of men led to the worst misdeeds
The Loris Petrillo's piéce, focused on the final moments of the life of Joan of Arc, highlights today the legacy of this obstinate and incorruptible girl, tormented but lucid and alert until the end.
Jeannette won’t give up.
